Understanding Your Device 16NotificationsNotification icons appear in the System Bar, to the left of the Timewhen you receive a notification. Notifications indicate the arrivalof Gmail, Email, alarms, calendar events, and so on.Touch a Notification icon for more detail. For example, touch aGmail Notification icon to see who sent the message.Touch the Time field to open the Notifications list to view all ofyour current notifications. Touch a Notification in the list todisplay the item. For example, touch a Gmail entry to open theGmail application and view the message.Most apps that send notifications, such as Gmail and GoogleTalk, have their own settings, which you can use to configurewhether and how they send notifications, whether they sound aringtone, and so on. See the documentation for those apps fordetails.Status DetailsTo display the current date and time, battery status, and Wi-Ficonnectivity status, open Status Details.1. Touch the Time in the Status Bar.The Status Details displays. If you have any currentnotifications, their summaries are listed below the StatusDetails. Touch a notification summary to respond to it.2. Close the Status Details by touching any other part of thescreen.Quick SettingsTo view and control the most common settings for your tablet, aswell as accessing the complete Settings application, open theQuick Settings.1. Touch the Time in the System bar.2. Touch anywhere in the Status Details.The Quick Settings open below the Status Details,replacing the list of current notifications.The Quick Settings are:• Flight mode: Drag the switch to On to turn off all the tablet’s radiosthat transmit data, including Wi-Fi. For more information, referto “Wi-Fi Settings” on page 96.• Lock screen orientation: Drag the switch to On to lock the screenin landscape orientation, so it does not rotate when you turn thetablet.
