Section 2I: Using Your Phone’s Voice Services 145Voice ServicesFor example, if you have a contact, “John Smith” stored inyour contact list, and you add, “Dad” to the nickname field, you can call that contact by saying, “Call John Smith” or bysaying “Call Dad.”Calling Phone Numbers (Digit Dialing)To voice dial a number that is not stored in your contact list: Say “Call” followed immediately by a valid string ofdigits to be dialed, for example, say “Call 555 555 5555."Speak naturally and clearly and remember to speak one digitat a time- 1-800 should be pronounced “One Eight Zero Zero.”Adapting Digit DialDigit Dialing is speaker independent, which means that notraining or adaptation is required. Some users with heavyaccents or unusual voice characteristics may find difficulty inachieving high accuracy with speaker independent DigitDialing, so the Adapt Digits feature allows users todramatically improve the digit accuracy through adaptation.Users who get acceptable digit recognition accuracy will findno additional benefit to performing the Adapt Digitadaptation. After you adapt Digit Dial, your phone will be customized toyour voice. Other people will not be able to use Digit Dial onyour phone unless they reset the phone to factory defaults.Tip: If your contact list contains a name that you have difficultyusing with the voice features (such as some unusual orforeign names), you can add a nickname for that contact thatspells out the proper pronunciation of that name.Note: ONLY adapt Digit Dial if the system is frequently mis-recognizing your speech. You can always restore the systemto its original factory setting.
