192Appendix > GlossaryMeteringThe metering refers to the way in which the camera measures the quantityof light to set the exposure.MF (Manual Focus)A system that manually focuses the camera lens on the subject. You can use the focus ring to focus on a subject.MJPEG (Motion JPEG)A video format which is compressed as a JPEG image.MPO (Multi Picture Object)An image file format that contains multiple images in a file. An MPO fileprovides a 3D effect on MPO-compatible displays, such as 3D TVs or 3Dmonitors.Image sensorThe physical part of a digital camera that contains a photosite for eachpixel in the image. Each photosite records the brightness of the light thatstrikes it during an exposure. Common sensor types are CCD (Charge-coupled Device) and CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor).IP (Internet protocol) addressAn IP address is a unique number that is assigned to every device that isconnected to the internet.ISO sensitivityThe sensitivity of the camera to light, based on the equivalent film speedused in a film camera. At higher ISO sensitivity settings, the camera uses ahigher shutter speed, which can reduce blur caused by camera shake andlow light. However, images with high sensitivity are more susceptible tonoise.JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)A lossy method of compression for digital images. JPEG images arecompressed to reduce their overall file size with minimal deterioration ofthe image resolution.
