Health and Safety Information 69Section 14: Health and Safety InformationThis section outlines the safety precautions associated with usingyour phone. These safety precautions should be followed to safelyuse your phone.Health and Safety InformationExposure to Radio Frequency (RF) SignalsCertification Information (SAR)Your wireless phone is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designedand manufactured not to exceed the exposure limits for radiofrequency (RF) energy set by the Federal CommunicationsCommission (FCC) of the U.S. government. These FCC exposure limits are derived from the recommendations oftwo expert organizations, the National Counsel on RadiationProtection and Measurement (NCRP) and the Institute of Electricaland Electronics Engineers (IEEE).In both cases, the recommendations were developed by scientific andengineering experts drawn from industry, government, and academiaafter extensive reviews of the scientific literature related to thebiological effects of RF energy. The exposure limit set by the FCC for wireless mobile phonesemploys a unit of measurement known as the Specific AbsorptionRate (SAR). The SAR is a measure of the rate of absorption of RFenergy by the human body expressed in units of watts per kilogram
