Connections 119Wi-FiAbout Wi-FiWi-Fi (short for wireless fidelity) is a term used for certaintypes of Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN). These devicetypes use an 802.11 wireless specification to transmit andreceive wireless data. Wi-Fi communication requires accessto an existing and accessible Wireless Access Point (WAP).These WAPs can either be Open (unsecured) as within mostHot Spots, or Secured (requiring knowledge of the Routername and password).Turning Wi-Fi OnBy default, your device’s Wi-Fi feature is turned on. TurningWi-Fi on makes your device able to discover and connect tocompatible in-range WAPs.1. From the Home screen, touch Settings . Under thesystem menu, touch Wi-Fi.2. Touch and slide the Wi-Fi networking slider to theright to turn Wi-Fi On.3. The device scans for available, in-range wirelessnetworks and displays them under Wi-Fi networks onthe same screen.4. Press to return to the Home screen.Connect To a Wi-Fi Network1. From the Home screen, touch Settings . Under thesystem menu, touch Wi-Fi.2. Make sure Wi-Fi has been turned on. The networknames and security settings (open or secure) ofdetected Wi-Fi networks are displayed in the Wi-Finetworks section.3. Touch the network to which you want to connect.Note: When you select an open network, you are automaticallyconnected to the network.4. Enter a wireless password, if necessary.
