Applications 147Enabling a Location SourceBefore you use Google Maps and find your location or searchfor places of interest, you must enable a location source. Toenable the location source you must enable the wirelessnetwork, or enable the GPS satellites.1. From the Home screen, tap Settings ➔ Locationservices.2. Tap the Use GPS satellites field. A green displays next tothe field.Note: Selecting Use GPS satellites allows you to locate placesof interest at the street-level. However, this also requiresa clear view of the sky and uses more battery power.To receive better GPS signals, avoid using your device in thefollowing conditions:• inside a building or between buildings• in a tunnel or underground passage• in poor weather• around high-voltage or electromagnetic fields• in a vehicle with tinted windowsUsing Maps1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Maps .A map displays with your location in the very center.2. Tap Settings to turn on GPS and wireless networks inlocation settings.3. Tap Never show this again if you do not want thisreminder each time you access the application.4. Press to display the following options:• Clear Map: allows you to remove all markings and layers fromthe map.• Make available offline: allows you to view information whennot connect using Wi-Fi or an internet connection.• Settings: the following Map options are available:– Display: allows you to display the Zoom Buttons and Scale Baron the screen.– Offline and Cache: allows you to set options to pre-fetch maptiles when not using Wi-Fi and to clear the cache that holds themap tiles.– Location settings: allows you to manage the settings for yourBackground location reporting, Location history, Latitudelocation sharing, and Check-ins.
