Section 2: Understanding Your Phone 27Your Phone’s ModesSection 2Lock ModeWhen the phone is in Lock Mode, restrictions areplaced on phone use. You can receive calls andmessages, but cannot place outgoing calls (except foremergency numbers) until you unlock the phone. LockMode also restricts access to menus and the volumekey. Unlock your phone by entering the lock code whenprompted. (See “Change Lock” on page 121 for moreinformation.)Standby ModeStandby mode is the state of the phone once it hasfound service and is idle. The phone goes into standbymode:• After you power the phone on.• When you press after a call or from within a menu.In standby mode, you will see the time, day, and dateas well as all phone status icons.1. While in standby mode, enter a phone number, andpress to place a call.2. Press to return to standby mode.Receive Messages in Standby ModeYou can receive messages in standby mode. An alerttone sounds and a notification message appears in thedisplay when a new message arrives.• Press the View (right) soft key ( ) to view now.• Press the Ignore (left) soft key ( ) to view later.
