34Entering TextWhen using your phone, you will often need toenter text, such as when storing a name inContacts, writing a message, creating your personalgreeting, or scheduling events on your calendar.You can enter alphanumeric characters by using thephone’s keypad.Your phone has the following text input modes:• Alphabet modeThis mode allows you to enter letters by pressingthe key labelled with the letter you want. Pressthe key once, twice, three, or four times until itdisplays.• T9 modeThis mode allows you to enter words with onlyone keystroke per letter. Each key on the keypadhas more than one letter; for example, pressingthe 5 key once can enter, J, K, or L. T9 modeautomatically compares the series of keystrokesyou make with an internal linguistic dictionary todetermine the most likely word, thus requiring farfewer keystrokes than the traditional Alphabetmode.• Number modeThis mode allows you to enter numbers.• Symbol modeThis mode allows you to enter various symbolsand special characters.
