Entering Text 78Section 5: Entering TextThis section describes how to select the desired text inputmethod when entering characters into your phone. Thissection also describes the predictive text entry system thatreduces the amount of key strokes associated with enteringtext.Your device comes equipped with an orientation detector thatcan tell if the phone is being held in an upright (Portrait) orsideways (Landscape) orientation. This is useful whenentering text.Your device also provides several on-screen keypad textentry options to make the task of text entry that much easier.Text Input MethodsThere are three text input methods available:• Google voice typing: provides a voice to text interface.• Samsung keyboard: an on-screen QWERTY keyboard thatcan be used in both portrait and landscape orientation.• Swype (default): is enabled so as you can enter text as youswipe across the on-screen keyboard. Instead of tappingeach key, use your finger to trace over each letter of aword.The on-screen QWERTY keypad works the same in bothportrait and landscape mode.Selecting the Text Input MethodThe Text Input Method can be assigned from within one oftwo locations:Settings Menu: From the Home screen, press and then tapSettings ➔ Language and input ➔ Default and selectan input method.Text Input field:1. From a screen where you can enter text, in a singlemotion, touch and drag the Status bar down to the bottomof the screen to reveal the Notification screen.2. Tap (Choose input method) and select anavailable input method.
