Settings 71TTY OptionsA TTY (also known as a TDD or Text Telephone) isa telecommunications device that allows peoplewho are deaf, hard of hearing, or who havespeech or language disabilities, to communicateby telephone.Your phone is compatible with select TTYdevices. Please check with the manufacturer ofyour TTY device to ensure that it is compatiblewith digital cell phones. Your phone and TTYdevice will connect via a special cable that plugsinto your phone’s headset jack. If this cable wasnot provided with your TTY device, contact yourTTY device manufacturer to purchase theconnector cable.Before using your phone with a TTY device,configure TTY options.Note: Enabling TTY Options may affect theperformance of headsets and other non-TTYequipment plugged into your phone’sheadset jack.1. From the Main screen, press theMENU/OK Key ➔ TOOLS + SETTINGS ➔Settings ➔ Others ➔ TTY Options.2. Use the Navigation Key to highlightitems, then press the MENU/OK Key toselect:• TTY Full• TTY + Talk• TTY + Hear• TTY OffTo access the state Telecommunications RelayService (TRS) for assistance with TTY calls: Dial 711, then press the TALK Key andpress to reach an operator.Caution! 911 Emergency Calling - it isrecommended that TTY users makeemergency calls by other means,including Telecommunications RelayServices (TRS), analog cellular, and landline communications. Wireless TTY callsto 911 may be corrupted when receivedby public safety answering points(PSAPs), rendering somecommunications unintelligible. Theproblem encountered appears related tosoftware used by PSAPs. This matter hasbeen brought to the attention of the FCC,and the wireless industry and the PSAPcommunity are currently working toresolve this.
