3-TERMINAL 1A POSITIVE VOLTAGE REGULATORSThe MC78XX/MC78XXA series of three-terminal positive regulators are available in theTO-220 package and with several fixed output voltages, making it useful in a wide rangeof applications. These regulators can provide local onward regulation, eliminating thedistribution problems associated with single point regulation. Each type employs internalcurrent limiting, thermal shut-down and safe area protection, making it essentiallyindestructible. If adequate heat sinking is provided, they can derive over aA outputcurrent. Although designed primarily as fixed voltage regulators, these devices can beused with external components to obtain adjustable voltages and currents.
