60Section 5: Entering TextThis section describes how to select the desired text input methodwhen entering characters into your phone. This section alsodescribes the predictive text entry system that reduces theamount of key strokes associated with entering text.Your phone comes equipped with an orientation detector that cantell if the phone is being held in an upright (Portrait) or sideways(Landscape) orientation. This is useful when entering text.Your phone also provides several on-screen keypad text entryoptions to make the task of text entry that much easier.Text Input MethodsThere are two text input methods available:• Samsung Keypad: an on-screen QWERTY keypad that can beused in both portrait and landscape orientation.• Swype (default): a new way to enter text on touch screens.Instead of tapping each key, use your finger to trace over eachletter of a word.The on-screen QWERTY keypad works the same in both portraitand landscape mode.Using the Samsung QWERTY KeypadFrom a screen where you enter text, rotate your phonecounterclockwise to a landscape orientation. The on-screenQWERTY keypad displays.The Samsung KeypadThis device has a built-in, QWERTY keypad (portrait mode) orkeyboard (landscape mode). Using the QWERTY keypad/keyboard, you can type letter, numbers, punctuation, and othercharacters.To use the Samsung keypad you must first configure the settingsto default to the Samsung keypad.1.
