− 5 −1. Do not subject the unit to shocks or vibration. If the unit is subjected to shocks or vibration, it maydamage the HDD or cause corruption of the data stored inthe HDD.• Do not move the unit while the power is turned on.Always be sure to turn off the power before removing theunit from or placing it onto the rack.• When transporting the unit, pack it securely using thespecified packing materials. In addition, use a method oftransportation that minimizes vibration.• When placing the unit down on a surface such as a floor, attach the specified feet to the base of the unit and placeit down gently. If the feet are not attached, place the unitdown very carefully so that it does not make any noise.2. Do not move the unit for 30 seconds after turningoff the power. After the power is turned off, the disk inside the HDD willcontinue to spin for a brief period due to inertia, and theheads will be in an unstable state.During this time, the unit is even more susceptible toshocks and vibration than when power is being supplied.Make sure that the unit is not subjected to even gentlevibration for at least 30 seconds after turning off thepower.3. Do not operate the unit when condensation hasformed. If the unit is operated when condensation has formed, itmay cause operating problems. If sudden changes in the ambient temperature occur, waitfor the temperature to stabilize before operating the unit.NOTES ON HANDLING INTERNAL HDD COMPONENTSThis unit has a built-in hard disk drive (HDD).Be sure to observe the following points carefully when operating, setting-up and servicing the unit.4. Notes when replacing the HDDBe sure to follow the correct replacement procedure whenreplacing the HDD.• HDDs that have been removed from their packaging maynot operate correctly if they are subjected to any shocksor vibration. It is recommended that you place the HDDonto a soft, level surface with the printed circuit boardfacing upward after unpacking it.• Be careful not to subject the HDD to shocks or vibrationwhen removing and tightening screws as part of the HDDreplacement procedure. Make sure that all screws aretightened securely so that they will not become loose.• The HDD is sensitive to static electricity, so you shouldtake proper precautions to prevent static electricitybuildup.5. Handling the HDD unit by itselfIf transporting or storing the HDD unit by itself, always besure to pack it in the specified packaging first. In addition, use a method of transportation that minimizesvibration. If the HDD becomes damaged, handle the unit and thedamaged HDD that has been removed in order for it to bereplaced carefully to prevent the problem from beingaggravated until as the nature of the problem can bechecked and analyzed.
