For example, when a strong backlight is created, as canoccur when photographing in bright surroundings, a subject in a brightbackground appears completely white. Furthermore, the details of dark areascreated by the shadows of a backlight are normally obscured in blackness.Shooting with the photo wide D-range function smoothly adjusts thebrightness levels from light areas to dark areas.HINTOther settings during photo wide D-range shootingi When the photo wide D-range is set to “ON”, the following settingsautomatically change as indicated.Flash (page 60): Disabled (no flash) lExposure (pages 64 and 108): @Photo stabilizer (page 103): ]Scene select fireworks + (page 101): =When sequential shots is active (page 100): VNoise reduction (page 138): “PHOTO NR” is “OFF”i During video clip recording, the photo wide D-range is automaticallyswitched to “OFF”.i The field of view of captured images will appear slightly narrow.CAUTIONi When the scene select function is set to night view portrait / or lampQ, the photo wide D-range effect may be insignificant.i The photo wide D-range function does not work when the shutter speed isslower than 1/60.i The photo wide D-range effect may be insignificant if you are shooting inan extremely bright or extremely dark environment.i Note that the exposure time during photo wide D-range shooting iscomparatively longer than for normal shooting.i When there are smear or flare effects in the image, or when it is misty,shooting with the photo wide D-range function enabled may in some casesproduce an unnatural appearing image.i Depending on the surrounding conditions, for example, when the lightsources of light and dark areas are different, an unnatural appearing imagemay be produced.i Image processing after shooting may take some time.
