1USING YOUR DIGITAL CAMERASAFELY AND CORRECTLYi Before using your camera, please read and understand these safetyinstructions as well as the instruction manual for your camera.i Keep all manuals in a safe place for later reference.i These safety instructions cover both the camera and its accessories.Depending on which product was purchased, the camera specificationsand accessories may differ.SAFETY MANUALCAUTIONS CONCERNING BOTH CAMERA AND ACCESSORIESWARNINGk If a device makes a strange noise, emits a strange odor, or if smokecomes out from it, immediately turn off the power and proceed asfollowsi If a device is used under these conditions, it may cause a fire orelectric shock.1 Turn off the device.2 When use the docking station or AC adaptor/charger, unplug thepower cord from the power outlet.3 Remove the battery.i After completing these actions, wait to make sure no more smokecomes from the device. Then take it to the dealer for service. Do nottry to repair or open the device yourself.k Do not use during a stormi To avoid the risk of being struck by lightning, do not use the devicesduring a thunderstorm. In particular, if used in an open field, you havean increased chance of being struck by lightning. Quickly seek refugein a place that will protect you from lightning.k Keep the devices out of the reach of childreni The following may happen if children play with the devices:h They may wrap the neckstrap around their neck and suffocate.h They may swallow the battery or other small parts. In such a case,consult a physician immediately.h They may damage their eyesight if the flash goes off too close totheir eyes.h They may get hurt by the camera or other devices.k Do not disassemble or modifyi It is dangerous to touch the inside of the devices. Doing so may causea fire or electric shock.i The camera, especially, incorporates high-voltage circuits.i Any internal check, setting, or repair should be performed by thedealer.i Do not use the AC adaptor as a direct current generator.CAUTIONS CONCERNING THE CAMERAWARNINGCAUTIONk Use within the specified time and depth parametersi This camera complies with the JIS IPX8 (formerly “JIS protectiongrade 8”) standard and can be safely used in water at a maximumdepth of approximately 3.0 m (9.84 ft.), for a maximum consecutiveperiod of time of approximately 60 minutes. Using the camera inconditions that exceed these parameters may expose the interior towater and cause the camera to malfunction.i If the inside of the camera gets wet, immediately turn it off andremove the battery pack. Then take it to a dealer for repair. Using thecamera after it has been become wet may cause a fire, electric shock,or other accident.k Do not use while drivingi Do not capture images, play back images, or watch the LCD monitorwhile driving a vehicle. Doing so may cause an accident.i Be careful where you put down the camera inside an automobile.During sudden stops or turns it may fall behind the brake pedal andprevent braking.k Be aware of your surroundings when using the camerai Pay close attention to your surroundings when using the camera.Failure to do so may lead to an accident or injury.i When using the camera while walking, be very careful of yoursurroundings and especially the traffic to avoid accidents.i Do not use the camera inside an airplane or elsewhere where its usemay be restricted. Doing so may cause an accident.k Do not place on an unstable surfacei The camera may fall, resulting in damage to the camera or injury.i If the camera has fallen and its body is damaged, turn it off, removethe battery pack, and take it to the dealer for repair. Using the cameraafter its body has been damaged may cause a fire or electric shock.k Do not look through the camera into the suni Do not look through the camera at the sun or any other strong sourceof light. Doing so may seriously injure your eyes.k Do not use the flash close to a person’s facei To prevent possible eye injury, do not use the flash near a person’sface. If the flash is used close to a person’s opened eyes, there is arisk that it may damage that person’s eyesight. Especially with youngchildren or babies, use the flash from a distance of at least 1 meteraway.k Do not use where there is risk of explosioni Do not use the camera in a location where there is explosive gas, orany other flammable material in the air. Doing so may cause a fire oran explosion.k Cautions when carrying the camerai Do not walk around with the camera suspended from your neck ordangling from your wrist. It may hit other objects and get damaged.When walking around with the camera, secure it with your hand, forexample, to prevent it from swinging around.i Be careful not to drop the camera or subject it to strong shocks.i Make sure direct sunlight does not hit the camera lens, as that maydamage the internal parts. When not using the camera, be sure toalways turn it off and confirm that the lens is covered.k If the camera is not going to be used for a long period of timei For safety’s sake, remove the battery pack from the camera. This willprevent any possible excess heat or leakage of battery fluid that mayresult in injuries or damage to nearby objects.k Cautions during use and storagei This camera is a precision instrument. It should not be used or storedwhere there are extreme changes in temperature or humidity, orwhere it may be exposed to water or dust.k Do not hold the hot part for a long timei The camera may become warm during use.A low temperature burn may result if you hold the hot part for a longtime.k Do not cover or wrap the camera in a cloth or blanketi It may generate heat and cause the casing to warp or cause a fire.k After using the camera in water, follow these steps to wash it.1 Securely close each cover.2 Fill a shallow basin with fresh water, and immerse the camera forabout 5 minutes.3 Rotate the monitor unit several times.4 Drain the camera completely, and use a dry cloth to wipe off anyremaining moisture.k To maintain your camera’s waterproof capabilityi It is recommended that the waterproof seal be replaced with a newone every year. (There is a charge for replacing it.)i For replacing the waterproof seal, please contact your dealer.Operating environment:i Temperature 0 to 40°C (32 to 104°F) (operation)0 to 35°C (32 to 95°F) (charging)–20 to 60°C (–4 to 140°F) (storage)i Humidity 30 to 90% (operation, no condensation)10 to 90% (storage, no condensation) |
