16 Basic operationEnglish SquelchThe radio’s squelch allows the radio to unmute only when thestrength of the incoming signal is above a predeterminedthreshold. This means that only signals of reasonable intelli-gibility are made audible.MonitorThe monitor function is used to check that the channel isclear before you make a call. While monitor is on, the greenLED flashes continually.Activating monitor1. Press the monitor function key and monitor overrides thesignalling mute, allowing you to hear any traffic onthe channel.Note: Your radio may be programmed to activatemonitor whenever the microphone is off themicrophone clip.2. Press the monitor function key again to turn monitor off,and the green LED no longer flashes.Activating squelch override1.
