Basic operation 23Adjusting the speaker volumeRotate the volume control clockwise to increase thespeaker volume and counterclockwise to decrease thevolume. The volume control also changes the volume levelof the radio’s audible indicators.Note: Your radio may be programmed with a minimumvolume level.Turning on control-head backlightingThe radio’s display and keypad light up when backlighting ison. This normally only happens when a key is pressed or acall is received. There are two ways you may be able tochange the way backlighting operates on your radio: turn on backlighting momentarily, using a programmedfunction key, or toggle backlighting between on and off, using either aprogrammed function key or the Main menu.Turning backlighting on momentarily by usinga function keyYou may be able to use a programmed function key to turnbacklighting on momentarily. Backlighting remains on for afew seconds and then turns off.Alternatively, the function key may be programmed so that: a short key press turns backlighting on momentarily, and a long key press turns backlighting on, and it remains onuntil there is a further long key press.Toggling backlighting on and off by using afunction keyThe function key programmed for backlighting toggles thebacklighting between on and off. When backlighting isturned on, it remains on until the function key ispressed again.
