22 Basic operationChecking that your network is availableThe amber LED glows whenever your radio has access to theMPT trunked network. If the amber LED is flashing, yourradio is attempting to access the MPT trunked network. If theLED remains flashing, your radio may be out of the networkcoverage area.Adjusting the speaker volumeRotate the volume control clockwise to increase the speakervolume and counterclockwise to decrease the volume. Thevolume control also changes the volume level of the radio’saudible indicators.Note: Your radio may be programmed with a minimumvolume level.Making a callTo make a call from your radio, you may be able to either:■ use whole-number scrolling■ dial the call using the shift key and scroll keys, or■ dial the call using the alphanumeric keys on a keypadmicrophone.Making a call by whole-number scrollingWhole-number scrolling is useful if the number to call is closeto the number currently on the display. For more informationsee “Whole-number scrolling in trunked mode” on page 20.To make a call by whole-number scrolling:1 Press the scroll keys anduntil the number is showing on thedisplay.2 Press the PTT key.
