TASCAM CC-222MKII Owner’s Manual 255 – Recording CDsBefore you start recording using the CC-222MKII,make sure that you understand the following keypoints:• Once you have recorded on a CD-R disc, the datacannot be erased from it.• You can add tracks to an unfinalized recordabledisc. Once finalized, a CD-R disc is “fixed” andbehaves in the same way as a pre-recorded disc.Finalized CD-RW discs, however, can be erased, refreshed and re-recorded.Input selectionTo select the input to be recorded, press the INPUT 1SEL key on the main unit while not recording or inrecord pause or monitor modes.Repeated presses of the key cycle through the follow-ing options:In the case of either the coaxial or optical inputsbeing selected, the appropriate indicator: COAXIAL orOPTICAL, lights on the display. If any of the analog signals is selected, the LINE 1 orTAPE indicator lights on the display.Signal volume• The analog signals received at the LINE 1 jacks, theRIAA PHONO jacks and the tape (if the input vol-ume is not being bypassed—see below) are con-trolled with the CD deck’s INPUT control.• When this control is at the 12 o’clock position, thesignal is neither cut nor boosted. Since this controlalso affects the digital input volume, we suggestthat when recording digital signals, this control isset to this position.• The level of the digital inputs may then be con-trolled using the digital volume menu, as describedbelow.1 Press the RECORD key to place the unit inrecord ready mode.2 Repeatedly press the MENU key until the dis-play shows VOLUME XXXdB where XXXis the current setting.3 Use the MULTI DIAL or the SKIP keys toadjust the input level. The maximum boost is+18 dB (relative to the original input level),and the signal may be cut by up to 60 dB.There is also a ---- setting which repre-sents a complete signal cut.Input monitoringWhen the unit is in record ready, or record mode, theinput signal is output from the OUT jacks (digital andanalog), allowing you to hear the input signal. The meters also show the current signal level. However, it is only possible to record, or to enterrecord ready mode, when a recordable disc isinserted. To allow monitoring of the input signal atother times, or when the unit is stopped, use theRECORD key on the main unit or remote control toenter monitor mode from stop mode when there is norecordable disc in the unit (when there is a recordabledisc in the unit, pressing the RECORD key entersrecord ready mode). The word MONITOR appears on the display toshow that the output signal is an echo of the inputsignal(s). The meters show the current input level.Exit the monitor mode by using the STOP key.OPTICAL Optical digital inCOAXIAL Coaxial digital inLINE1 Analog in (LINE 1)PHONO Phono inputsTAPE The CC-222MKII cassette deck
