4 Electrical connection4.1 General requirementsThe supply voltage range can differ depending on the instrumentversion. The exact range is stated in the "Technical data".Take note of country-specific installation standards (e.g. the VDEregulations in Germany) as well as prevailing safety regulationsand accident prevention rules. In hazardous areas you should take note of the appro-priate regulations, conformity and type approval certifi-cates of the sensors and power supply units.4.2 Voltage supplyGeneralPower supply and current signal are carried over the same two-wire connection cable. The requirements on the power supply arestated in the Technical Data of this Product Information manual.4 … 20 mA/HART two-wireThe VEGA power supply units VEGATRENN 149AEx, VEGAS-TAB 690, VEGADIS 371 as well as VEGAMET signal condition-ing instruments are suitable for power supply. When one of theseinstruments is used, a reliable separation of the supply circuitsfrom the mains circuits acc. to DIN VDE 0106 part 101 is ensuredfor VEGABAR.Profibus PAPower is supplied by a Profibus DP/PA segment coupler or aVEGALOG 571 EP input card.Fig. 11: Integration of instruments in a Profibus PA system via segment coupler DP/PA or data recording systems with Profibus PA input cardFoundation FieldbusPower supply via the H1 Fieldbus cable.4.3 Connection cableGeneralThe sensors are connected with standard cable without screen. An outer cable diameter of 5 … 9 mm ensures the seal effect of thecable entry.4 … 20 mA/HART two-wire and four-wireIf electromagnetic interference is expected which is above thetest values of EN 61326 for industrial areas, screened cableshould be used. In HART multidrop mode the use of screenedcable is generally recommended.Profibus PA, Foundation FieldbusThe installation must be carried out acc. to the appropriate busspecification. VEGABAR is connected respectively withscreened cable acc. to the bus specification. Power supply anddigital bus signal are transmitted via the same two-wire connec-tion cable. Make sure that the bus is terminated via appropriateterminating resistors. In Ex applications, the corresponding installation regu-lations must be noted for the connection cable.4.4 Cable screening and groundingIf screened cable is necessary, the cable screen must be con-nected on both ends to ground potential. If potential equalisationcurrents are expected, the connection on the evaluation sidemust be made via a ceramic capacitor (e.g. 1 nF, 1500 V).Profibus PA, Foundation FieldbusIn systems with potential separation, the cable screen is con-nected directly to ground potential on the power supply unit, inthe connection box and directly on the sensor. In systems without potential equalisation, connect the cablescreen directly to ground potential only at the power supply unitand at the sensor - do not connect to ground potential in theconnection box or T-distributor.4.5 Wiring plansSingle chamber housingI2CDisplay11 2 5 6 7 8Fig. 12: Connection HART two-wire, Profibus PA, Foundation Fieldbus1 Power supply and signal outputElectrical connectionHydrostatic – Level and pressure measurement 929235-EN-060411
