Use approved media only. To avoid dust and clogs get-ting into the system, do not dump the media over the burner.Place the media onto the plate or pan.Burner should be covered by approved media up to 1/2”above the jets. Media may be positioned so that jet tips orbarrels are visible. PLEASE NOTE - covering jets by morethan 1/2” of media may create back pressure and gasleakage resulting in pooling of gas under the fire featurewhich can result in explosion which could cause proper-ty damage, personal injury, or death. Also note that flamepattern will be affected by any media coverage over gasorifice jets up to and including smothering of flames. When using electronic ignition systems please pay par-ticular attention to keeping media away from the pilotassembly area and/or away from wind screen of pilotassembly. Incorrect media installation that blocks pilotassembly will cause the pilot flame to stifle, blocking ofthermal sensor and/or a delay in main burner ignition. The appliance is designed to use approved media that iscorrectly installed over the burner to achieve proper com-bustion. Use of any media outside of the approved mediamay void warranty and affect proper operations.Install enclosure and firefeature per instructionsprovided by manufacturer.DO NOT DUMP MEDIAON THE JETS. Apply mediaby pouring media aroundburner first, then pushingmedia towards the gas jetorifices making sure mediadoes not fall into the gas jetorifices. Check each gas jetorifice prior to lighting to be sure no media has fallen intogas jet orifices. For All Electronic Ignition Systems: Keep pilot assemblyscreen free and clear of all media. Media should be piled nomore than halfway up screen only (not over full amount ofscreen) so that pilot gas orifice opening is above media cov-erage allowing for pilot flame to easily reach gas jet orifice. For Ceramic Log Sets:Place logs on top of lavarock base according topreference and desiredflame pattern. For elec-tronic ignition systems- do not block, cover orobstruct pilot assembly.Blocking, covering or placing ceramic logs too close topilot may cause excessive heat on pilot causing system tofail. This is not covered under warranty.OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSKeep the area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.Solid fuels shall not be burned in the fire pit. Leaves, sticks, wood, paper, clothing, food material, should be kept awayfrom the fire pit. Make sure that there is no vegetation orother objects over the top or sides of the fire pit that couldinterfere with safe operation. If there are any questions asto clearances, refer to CLEARANCES DIAGRAM in yourInstallation Manual for specific clearance allowances.Wind and gusty conditions may cause the flame to be-have in an unpredictable manner. If conditions exist, turnoff the fire feature. All media (lava rock, volcanic stone, fire glass, etc.) hasthe potential of thermal spalling. This process may occurwhen media is wet and moisture gets trapped inside ofthe material due to rapid temperature differences. Whenthis happens the media has the potential to crack or popoutside of the fireplace. Extra caution should be takenwhen lighting in high humidity or moisture. After igniting, allow 30 minutes to dry out the media, and monitor froma distance until all popping has ceased before fully enjoy-ing the fire.TURNING ON YOUR MATCH LIT SYSTEM1. STOP! Read all the safety information.2. Any cover must be removed prior to operation of burn-er or appliance and must remain off during operation.Danger: Fire or Explosion Hazard. If you smell gas, shut off gas to the appliance, extinguish any openflame. If odor continues, leave the area immedi-ately. After leaving the area, call your gas supplieror fire department. Failure to follow these instruc-tions could result in fire or explosion, which couldcause property damage, personal injury or death.3. Confirm that your main Natural Gas or Liquid Propanesupply to the appliance is open. Do not open yourkey valve or gas control valve at this time.4. Before lighting, visually inspect fire feature and removeany accumulated leaves or other combustible debris.5. Locate key valve or gas control valve controlling gassupply to your appliance.6. Locate the closest jet tip on the exterior of the burnerthat can be easily accessed while operating key valveor gas control valve without reaching across other jets
