2. Hardware componentsThis chapter is an overview of the Xerox 4050/4090/4650 LaserPrinting System (LPS) storage and memory, hardwarecomponents, additional features, and optional printercomponents.Refer to the Xerox 4450 Mid-Range Printer Product Reference forinformation on the hardware components of the 4450 MRP.LPS system disk storage and memoryThe system disks store the operating system software and thesystem resources, such as fonts, forms, and graphics, you wantto load into memory for use during input processing. There areseveral types of memory used with the LPS.System disksThe 4050/4450 LPS has two standard 50 MB system disks.Optional expansion of up to 200 MB in 50 MB increments isavailable. The 4090/4650 LPS has two standard 170 MB disks. Optionalexpansion of up to two additional 170, 182, or 380 MB drives isalso available.Font memoryEach character in a font set is composed of a unique pattern ofdots. Font memory stores the data representation of eachcharacter in an individual memory location. If a job requiresmultiple fonts, more font memory may be needed.• The 4050/4450LPS has 8 MB of font memory which isexpandable to 16 MB.• The 4090/4650 LPS has 16 MB of font memory which isexpandable to 32 MB.XEROX 4050/4090/4450/4650 LPS PRODUCT REFERENCE 2-1
