CTCSS OperationThe FT-51R can be used to access repeatersthat require a CTCSS (continuous, subaudible)tone, and to silently monitor for calls on busychannels. The encode ('IT ' I ) function superim -poses a subaudible tone (at a frequency too lowto be heard) on the transmitted carrier. The de -code ("TSQ " -tone squelch) function monitorsreceiver audio through a narrow filter at thesame subaudible frequency, keeping the squelchclosed until you receive a matching tone.To check or set tbgT:Frrent CTCSS tone fre-quency, press @-+ato seethe tone frequency displayed inHz. To change the selected tone,iZr2 the DIAL or press ?& oruntil the display showsthe tone frequency you require(the display steps through thestandard EIA tones, listed i$t&table at the right). Press c2>again alone to return to the op-erating frequency display. To activate CTCSS functions, press (OM)+ (1)when the op-erating frequency is displayed.TONE WWith one press, T (encode) appears at the top ofthe display and the tone genemtsr is activatedfor transmission. Press O+m a g a i n or just(1) if the alternate key functions are still active( 0 displayed) and both T and SQ (decode) willbe displayed together as the tone squelch systemis activated for both transmit and receive (onlyincoming signals "encoded" with the matchingT O N E Wtone open the squelch). To tt;% off the tonesquelch features, press (OM>-+(1)once more. You can store CTCSS tones (and encode/de-code states) in each memory in the same manner(and at the same time) as storing channel fre-CTCSS Tone Frequencies (Hz)67.069.371.974.477.079.782.585.488.591.5:4: 1 131.8136.5100.0 141.3103.5 146.2107.2 151.4192.8218.1241.8quencies.
