3VL-2000 Operating ManualFront Panel Controls & SwitchesATT SwitchThis switch activates a 3 dB input RF power attenua-tor, to reduce excessive input power from the exciter. It should be “on” if exciter output exceeds 100 wattPEP, as is the case when using the FTDX9000 seriestransceiver. The LED will glow red, when this switchis “on”.Note: This switch does not effect while transmitting.INPUT SwitchThis switch selects the exciters which connected tothe INPUT 1 and INPUT 2 jacks on the rear panel. The “INPUT 1” or “INPUT 2” LED will glow red toindicate which exciter is in use.Note: This switch does not effect while transmitting.PROTECT LEDThis LED blinks red when the Linear Amplifier is ab-normal.TUNE ButtonThis is the on/off switch for the VL-2000’s AutomaticAntenna Tuner.Press this button briefly, places the antenna tuner inline between the transmitter final amplifier and theantenna connector (The LED will glow red, and re-ception is not affected).Press and hold this button for 1/2 second, while re-ceiving in an a mature band, activates the transmitterfor a few seconds while the Automatic Antenna Tunerrematches the antenna system impedance for mini-mum SWR. The LED will blink red when the antennatuning is processing.Pressing this button briefly, while the Tuner is en-gaged, will take the Automatic Antenna Tuner out ofthe transmit line.HI-SWR LEDThis LED blinks red when the antenna system is ab-normally high SWR condition (over 3.0:1) that cannotbe resolved by the Automatic Antenna Tuner. When this LED blinks, the exciter output delivers tothe antenna connector directly without through a lin-ear amplifier.Note: Check to be sure that you have the correct an-tenna selected on the current operating band whenthis LED blinks red. If so, you will need to check thecondition of the antenna, its coaxial cable and/or theconnectors on the cable so as to locate and correctfault.ANT ButtonThese momentary buttons select the antenna jack onthe rear panel, with the selection indicated by the redLED in each button.Note: These buttons does not effect while transmit-ting.BAND ButtonThese momentary buttons select the amateur band forthe operation, with the selection indicated by the LEDin each button. If using the Yaesu transceiver with a BAND DATACable, the VL-2000 operation band will be remotelycontrolled by the transceiver’s BAND switch.Note: These buttons does not effect while transmit-ting.ForefeetThese forefeet enable to extend the length of the fore-foot for easy viewing by rotating the outer ring of theforefeet.
