RIDING DOWNHILLWhen riding your ATV downhill, shift yourweight as far to the rear and uphill side of theATV as possible. Move back on the seat andsit with your arms straight. Engine compres-sion will do most of the braking for you. Formaximum engine compression braking effect, change to 4WD before beginning to descendthe hill and choose a low gear which will allowthe engine compression to do most of thebraking for you. Improper braking may causea loss of traction. Use caution while descend-ing a hill with loose or slippery surfaces. Brak-ing ability and traction may be adverselyaffected by these surfaces. Improper brakingmay also cause a loss of traction. When this ATV is in 4WD, all wheels (frontand rear) are interconnected by the drivetrain. This means that applying either the frontbrake or the rear brake will brake all wheels. When descending hills, using either brake le-ver or the brake pedal will brake the wheelson the downhill side. Avoid sudden applica-tion of either the front or rear brake becausethe wheels on the uphill side could come offthe ground. Apply both the front and rearbrakes gradually.Whenever possible, ride your ATV straightdownhill. Avoid sharp angles which could al-low the ATV to tip or roll over. Carefullychoose your path and ride no faster than youwill be able to react to obstacles which mayappear.U5FU14.book Page 30 Thursday, April 3, 2003 1:19 PM
