The lanyardshould be attached to a secure place on theoperator’s clothing, or arm or leg. Should theoperator fall overboard or leave the helm, thelanyard will pull out the lock plate, stopping ig-nition to the engine. This will prevent the boatfrom running away under power.WARNINGEWM00120 Attach the engine stop switch lanyard toa secure place on your clothing, or yourarm or leg while operating. Do not attach the lanyard to clothingthat could tear loose. Do not route thelanyard where it could become entan-gled, preventing it from functioning. Avoid accidentally pulling the lanyardduring normal operation. Loss of enginepower means the loss of most steeringcontrol. Also, without engine power, theboat could slow rapidly.
