4 EnEnglish■ Operating the speaker terminals1 Press and hold the terminal tab.2 Insert the bare wire.3 Release the tab so that it closes securely on thebare wire, not the insulation.4 Test the security of the connection by pullinggently on the cable.Notes• Make sure the bare wires do not touch each other, asthis could damage the speaker or the amplifier.• If the connections are faulty, you will hear no soundfrom the speakers.■ Connecting the speakersConnect each speaker to the appropriate speakerterminals on your amplifier by using the cables youprepared earlier. See the “Connection diagram” onpage 3 for reference.Make sure you connect the speakers with the correctpolarity—positive (+) terminals to positive (+)terminals, and negative (–) terminals to negative (–)terminals. If you get them crossed over, the sound willbe unnatural and lack bass.In your AV receiver’s speaker size settings, specifysmall (or “S”) for all of the NS-P20 speakers.If you’re connecting the subwoofer to a Yamaha DSPamplifier or AV receiver, connect to its SUBWOOFERor LOW PASS output.Connecting the power cablesOnce you’ve completed all of the speaker andsubwoofer connections, plug the subwoofer, amplifier,and your other AV components into suitable AC walloutlets.1 Power indicatorLights up when the POWER switch is set to ON;goes off when the POWER switch is set to OFF.2 INPUT jackInput jack for connecting the line-level subwooferoutput on your amplifier.3 VOLUME controlAdjusts the volume of the subwoofer. Turn itclockwise to increase the volume;counterclockwise to decrease the volume.4 POWER switchSet this to ON to turn on the subwoofer. Set it toOFF to turn off the subwoofer.5 VOLTAGE SELECTOR (China, Korea,Asia, and General models)Make sure the VOLTAGE SELECTOR is set to thecorrect voltage for your area (110–120/220–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz). Ask your dealer if you are not sure.WarningDisconnect the power cable before changing theVOLTAGE SELECTOR setting.Setting the subwoofer volumeThe very first time you use the subwoofer, you need toset the volume balance between the subwoofer and thefront speakers as follows.1 Turn on your other AV components.2 Set the subwoofer’s VOLUME control tominimum (0).3 Set the subwoofer’s POWER switch to ON.The power indicator on the rear panel lights up.4 Play a audio source that contains low-frequency bass sounds.
