5 EnConnecting the speakers■ Preparing the speaker cablesOnce you’ve positioned the speakers, you’ll need to cutthe 25-meter (82 ft.) speaker cable to make five cablesfor connecting the two front speakers, center speaker, and the two surround speakers.1 Cut the included speaker cable to suitablelengths for the front, center, and surroundspeakers. You need five cables.2 Remove about 10 mm (3/8") of insulation fromthe end of each speaker wire.3 Twist the bare wires tightly.Notes• Make the speaker cables as short as possible. Do notbundle or roll up excess cable.• Twist the bare wires tightly so the individual strandsare not splayed.• Be careful not to injure yourself while preparing thespeaker cables.■ Operating the speaker terminals1 Press and hold the terminal tab.2 Insert the bare wire.3 Release the tab so that it closes securely on thebare wire, not the insulation.4 Test the security of the connection by pullinggently on the cable.Notes• Make sure the bare wires do not touch each other, asthis could damage the speaker or the amplifier.• If the connections are faulty, you will hear no soundfrom the speakers.■ Connecting the speakersConnect each speaker to the appropriate speakerterminals on your amplifier by using the cables youprepared earlier. See the “Connection diagram” onpage 4 for reference.Make sure you connect the speakers with the correctpolarity—positive (+) terminals to positive (+)terminals, and negative (–) terminals to negative (–)terminals. If you get them crossed over, the sound willbe unnatural and lack bass.In your AV receiver’s speaker size settings, specifysmall (or “S”) for all of the NS-P380 speakers. If you’re connecting the subwoofer to a Yamaha DSPamplifier or AV receiver, connect to its SUBWOOFERor LOW PASS output.Connecting the power cablesOnce you’ve completed all of the speaker andsubwoofer connections, plug the subwoofer, amplifier, and your other AV components into suitable AC walloutlets.Good No Good10 mm (3/8")23311Positive (+)Negative (–)Note: Make sure theterminal is grippingthe bare wire, notthe insulation.
