Be certain air cleaner is clean and attached tothe carburetor before adjusting carburetor.SECTION 7: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN TRACTORBattery CareType “A” BatteryType “A” batteries are maintenance-free.Type “B” Battery• Check fluid level inside each cell of the batteryevery two weeks and before and after charging.Always keep level between maximum andminimum fill level.• Add only distilled water. Never add additional acidor any other chemicals to the battery after initialactivation.NOTE: After operating the lawn tractor for a long periodof time, check the fluid level in the battery as it canoverheat and lose fluid.• The engine is equipped with an alternator whichcharges battery when tractor is operated. Undernormal conditions, the battery only needs to becharged before, during and after off-seasonstorage.• To charge the battery:Battery P/N 725-1705D—Charge at 2-3 amps forone hour. Battery P/N 725-1707D, 725-0453G, and725-1750—Charge at 6 amps for one hour.WARNING: When removing or installingthe battery, follow these instructions toprevent the screwdriver from shortingagainst the frame.• Removing the Battery: Disconnect negative cablefirst, then positive cable.• Installing the Battery: Connect positive cable first,then negative cable.Jump Starting• First, connect end of one jumper cable to thepositive terminal of the good battery, then the otherend to the positive terminal of the dead battery.• Connect the other jumper cable to the negativeterminal of the good battery, then to the frame ofthe unit with the dead battery.WARNING: Failure to use this procedurecould cause sparking, and the gas ineither battery could explode.Cleaning Battery• Clean the battery by removing it from the unit andwashing with a baking soda and water solution. Ifnecessary, scrape the battery terminals with a wirebrush to remove deposits.
