17The Hob TopThe hob is best cleaned whilst it is still warm, asspillage can be removed more easily than if it isleft to cool.Regularly wipe over the hob top using a softcloth well wrung out in warm water to which alittle washing up liquid has been added. Avoidthe use of the following:• household detergent and bleaches;• impregnated pads unsuitable for non-sticksaucepans;• steel wool pads;• bath/sink stain removers.The HotplatesSpills onto the actual plate should be removedusing warm water and a soft brush, nylon orplastic scourer. To keep the plates looking as new,hotplate conditioner can be purchased from mosthardware stores, e.g. “4 Hob” by HomeCareProducts (follow the manufacturer’s instruction foruse). Alternatively, wipe the plates with a drop ofolive oil on a kitchen towel to avoid rust. It isimportant to note that the plate will smoke a littleand produce a slightly unpleasant odour whennext used.DryingImportant: After cleaning, dry the hotplatesthoroughly by switching on to a low-mediumsetting for a few minutes.RestoringTo maintain the appearance of your sealedhotplates apply a little salt-free vegetable oil orrestorative agent periodically.To apply vegetable oil: first heat the hotplate on amedium setting for 30 seconds then turn off. Poura very small amount of salt-free oil onto a dry clothor kitchen paper. Apply a thin coat of oil to thehotplate surface and wipe off any excess. Heat thehotplate on a medium setting for 1 minute.To apply restorative agent: first heat the hotplateon a medium setting for 30 seconds then turnoff. Apply a very thin coating of Collo Electrol(using the applicator). Heat a hotplate on a highsetting for 2-3 minutes to cure. Some smoke willoccur, this is normal and nontoxic. (NB: thisproduct is a restorative agent not a cleanser. It isavailable from hardware stores).Stainless steel parts: the stainless steel spill ringsmay become straw coloured with use. Use aproprietary stainless steel cleaner to remove thisstraw discolouration. This also applies to the areaaround the hotplates on stainless steel hobs.OVEN BULB REPLACEMENTEnsure that the appliance is switchedoff and disconnected from the electricitysupply before replacing the bulb to avoidpossibility of an electric shock.If the oven bulb needs replacing, it must complywith the following specifications:Wattage: 25WVoltage: 230/240V(50Hz)Temperatures: 300ºCThread Type: E14To replace the faulty bulb.1. Turn the glass cover anticlockwise andremove.2. Remove the faulty bulb and replace with anew one.3. Refit the glass cover.Reconnect the appliance to the electricitysupply.
