10Maintenance and CleaningBefore any maintenance orcleaning can be carried out,you must DISCONNECT thehob from the electricity supply.This appliance cannot becleaned with steam or with asteam cleaning machine.The hob is best cleaned whilst it isstill warm, as spillage can be removedmore easily than if it is left to cool.The Hob TopRegularly wipe over the hob topusing a soft cloth well wrung out in warmwater to which a little washing up liquidhas been added. Avoid the use of thefollowing:- household detergent and bleaches;- impregnated pads unsuitable fornon-stick saucepans;- steel wool pads;- bath/sink stain removers.Should the hob top become heavilysoiled, the following products arerecommended:- For stainless steal hobs use aproprietary stainless steel cleaner.- For other hobs use Hob Brite or BarKeepers Friend.The control knobs may be removedby carefully pulling them upward foreasier cleaning.Do not leave acid or alkalinesubstances (e.g. vinegar, salt,lemon juice, etc.) on thecooktop.The HotplatesSpills onto the actual plate should beremoved using warm water and a softbrush, nylon or plastic scourer. To keepthe plates looking as new, hotplateconditioner can be purchased from mosthardware stores, e.g. "4 Hob" byHomeCare Products (follow themanufacturer's instruction for use).Alternatively, wipe the plates with adrop of olive oil on a kitchen towel toavoid rust. It is important to note that theplate will smoke a little and produce aslightly unpleasant odour when nextused.Stainless steel parts: the stainlesssteel spill rings may become strawcoloured with use. Use a proprietarystainless steel cleaner to remove thisstraw discolouration. This also applies tothe area around the hotplates onstainless steel hobs.Failure to clean and conditionhotplates may lead to rust andcorrosion forming on the surface.Fig. 4
