Helpful hints and tipsHints for freezingTo help you make the most of the freezing process, hereare some important hints:• the maximum quantity of food which can be frozen in24 hrs. is shown on the rating plate;• the freezing process takes 24 hours. No further food tobe frozen should be added during this period;• only freeze top quality, fresh and thoroughly cleaned,foodstuffs;• prepare food in small portions to enable it to be rapidlyand completely frozen and to make it possible subse-quently to thaw only the quantity required;• wrap up the food in aluminium foil or polythene andmake sure that the packages are airtight;• do not allow fresh, unfrozen food to touch food whichis already frozen, thus avoiding a rise in temperature ofthe latter;• lean foods store better and longer than fatty ones; saltreduces the storage life of food;• water ices, if consumed immediately after removal fromthe freezer compartment, can possibly cause the skin tobe freeze burnt;• it is advisable to show the freezing in date on each in-dividual pack to enable you to keep tab of the storagetime.Hints for storage of frozen foodTo obtain the best performance from this appliance, youshould:• make sure that the commercially frozen foodstuffs wereadequately stored by the retailer;• be sure that frozen foodstuffs are transferred from thefoodstore to the freezer in the shortest possible time;• not open the lid frequently or leave it open longer thanabsolutely necessary.• Once defrosted, food deteriorates rapidly and cannot berefrozen.• Do not exceed the storage period indicated by the foodmanufacturer.Care and cleaningCaution! Switch off the appliance.2. Disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket.3. Regularly clean the appliance and the accessorieswith warm water and neutral soap. Clean the lid sealcarefully.4. For this reason it is recommended that the outercasing of this appliance is only cleaned with warm waterwith a little washing-up liquid added.Defrosting the freezerDefrost the freezer when the frost layer reaches a thicknessof about 10-15 mm.The best time to defrost the freezer when it contains no oronly a little food.To remove the frost, do these steps:1. Switch off the appliance.2. Remove any stored food, wrap it in several layers ofnewspaper and put it in a cool place.3. Leave the lid open , remove the plug from the defrostwater drain and collect all defrost water on a tray.Use a scraper to remove ice quickly.4. When defrosting is completed, dry the interior thor-oughly and refit the plug.5. Switch on the appliance.16
