14Storage of frozen foodWhen first starting-up or after a period out of use,before putting the products in the compartment letthe appliance run at least two hours on the coldestsetting, then turn the thermostat knob to the normaloperating position.To obtain the best performance from this appliance,you should:if large quantities of food are to be stored, remove alldrawers and baskets from appliance (except for thelast one at the bottom) and place food on coolingshelves.Pay careful attention not to exceed load limit statedon the side of the upper section (where applicable).ImportantIn the event of accidental defrosting, for exampledue to a power failure, if the power has been offfor longer that the value shown in the technicalcharacteristics chart under “rising time”, thedefrosted food must be consumed quickly orcooked immediately and then refrozen (aftercooling).ThawingDeep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, canbe thawed in the refrigerator compartment or atroom temperature, depending on the time availablefor this operation.Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen,directly from the freezer: in this case, cooking willtake longer.Ice-cube productionThis appliance is equipped with one or more traysfor the production of ice-cubes. Fill these trays withwater, then put them in the freezer compartment.Do not use metallic instruments to remove thetrays from the freezer.Freezing fresh foodThe 4-star compartment is suitable forlong term storage of commercially frozen food, andfor freezing fresh food.If the freezer has already been working for sometime, press the Super knob at least 12 hours beforeintroducing the food into the freezer in order toensure better freezing results.Place the food to be frozen in the compartment asshown in figure.In order to freeze the quantity indicated on the ratingplate, arrange the food directly in contact with thecooling surfaces. If the food is frozen in the baskets,the maximum quantity freezable is slightly less.The temperature alarm light (A)The temperature alarm light turns on automaticallywhenever the temperature within the freezer risesabove a certain value which might endangersatisfactory long-term conservation.It is perfectly normal for the temperature alarm lightto remain lit up for a short time after the freezer isinitially turned on. It will remain lit up until theoptimum temperature for the conservation of frozenfood is attained.
