4Maintenance and CleaningA - Burner capB - Burner crownC - Ignition electrodeFig. 1Hob BurnersTo light a burner:! push in the relevant control knob and turn itanticlockwise to maximum position;! then adjust the flame as required.If the burner does not ignite, turn the control knob tozero, and try again.In the absence of electricity, ignition can occur withoutthe electrical device; in this case approach the burnerwith a flame, push the relevant knob down and turn itanti-clockwise until it reaches maximum position.To ensure maximum burner efficiency, you should onlyuse pots and pans with a flat bottom fitting the size ofthe burner used (see table).Operation"Burner minimum maximumdiameter diameterLarge (rapid) 180 mm 260 mmMedium (semi-rapid) 120 mm 220 mmSmall (auxiliary) 80 mm 160 mmIf you use a saucepan which is smaller thanthe recommended size, the flame will spreadbeyond the bottom of the vessel, causing thehandle to overheat.Take care when frying food in hot oil or fat,as the overheated splashes could easilyignite.As soon as a liquid starts boiling, turn down theflame so that it will barely keep the liquidsimmering.If the control knobs become difficult to turn, pleasecontact your local Service Force Centre.Before any maintenance or cleaning can be carriedout, you must DISCONNECT the hob from theelectricity supply.The hob is best cleaned whilst it is still warm, as spillagecan be removed more easily than if it is left to cool.The Hob TopRegularly wipe over the hob top using a soft cloth wellwrung out in warm water to which a little washing upliquid has been added. Avoid the use of the following:- household detergent and bleaches;- impregnated pads unsuitable for non-sticksaucepans;- steel wool pads;- bath/sink stain removers.Should the hob top become heavily soiled, it isrecommended that a cleaning product such as Hob Briteor Bar Keepers Friend is used.
