agmchas/p1 2-4SERVICING - SMALL SIGNAL MODULE REPLACEMENTSMALL SIGNAL (MAIN) MODULE REPLACEMENTAND TOUCHUP CONVERGENCEIMPORTANT ! All convergence data is stored inIC6002, the eight pin Serial EEPROM locatedon the Micro Module. A complete re-conver-gence will be required unless this data isretrieved from the original module either by recordingthe convergence values or transferring IC6002 to thereplacement module.Small Signal Replacement Convergence ProcedureNOTE: If the small signal (Main) Module is thecause of a Dead Set condition, and IC6002 isfaulty, the replacement module may requirea complete convergence setup. If set still has on-screen display, use the followingprocedure:1. Remove shield from the Micro Module on theoriginal Small Signal Module and the replacementmodule. Remove IC6002 from original module andexchange it with IC6002 from the replacementmodule. Replace both shields making sure to re-install IC6002 on DUD Module.2. Press and hold MENU on remote until User Menudisplay disappears. Then press “999" and ENTER.Set will now be in the Geometry Adjustment Mode; itis not necessary to save GEOMETRY settings. PressFLASHBACK to access the Green Convergence Sett -ings. The left side of the bar describes the adjust-ment name. The two numbers on the right side ofthe bar are the Horizontal and Vertical settings:Horizontal on the left and Vertical on the right.Green Convergence Mode Display3. Start by pressing 1 on remote. Write down theconvergence values on the Digital ConvergenceNumbers For Rear Projo TV sheet provided. Wherethere are more than one set of numbers, press thenumber again to see the second set.4. After all the Green settings have been recorded, press MUTE to access the Blue settings. Repeatprocedure and record all of the BLUE settings. WhenBLUE is finished, press SURF for RED and record all ofthe RED settings.5. When all of the settings have been recorded, pressQUIT to exit the Convergence Mode.NOTE: REMEMBER - Avoid any mechanical adjust-ments on the CRTs or adjustment of theHorizontal and Vertical size controls on thePower Supply Module, if only replacing theMain Module.6. Remove defective module and install replacementmodule. Ensure that all connectors are plugged insecurely.7. Place the set in the Convergence Mode and install allof the convergence values. Start with Green andfollow with Red, then Blue.NOTE: To save the convergence values just entered, press QUIT. “Do You Want To Save TheChanges - YES/NO” will appear. Use theADJUST button to select YES or NO, then pressENTER to save. Do this after each “Green,Red, Blue” sequence to avoid losing all ofyour work should a power interruption occur.8. If, after installing all of the original values, set stillneeds some touchup of the convergence, attach acrosshatch generator to set and follow the procedureprovided. Use the small Left/Right arrows for hori-zontal adjustments and the small Up/Down arrowsfor vertical adjustments. Pressing ENTER lets youtoggle between the control’s stored setting and theadjustment just made.9. Access the Service Menu and enter the Stereocoefficients as shown on the bar code label on smallsignal Module.Replacing SmallSignal ModuleDead SetRecord convergencevalues to worksheetProceed withminor convergenceTransfer IC6002from originalModuleRecord convergencevalues to worksheetInstall convergencevalues or transferIC6002 to newModuleProceed withminor convergenceSet has OSD Display
