SkyZhone 1600, 1400, 1200 Hardware Installation Guide 13Chapter 1 The SkyZhone Access PointThis chapter provides an overview of the SkyZhone Wi-Fi outdoor access point, including• Overview, page 13• SkyZhone features, page 13• SkyZhone Models, page 15• Coverage Area, page 16• Port Connectors, page 17OverviewThe SkyZhone access point (Models 1X00) are AC-powered carrier class outdoor Wi-Fi accesspoints with 10/100 Mbps Ethernet backhaul to every unit. The SkyZhone supports a variety ofapplications including• VoIP• internet access• mobile video• enterprise VPNs optimized for citywide Wi-Fi deployments by telephone companies. The SkyZhone Wi-Fi Access Point enables wireless voice, video, and data communications. Thedual radio architecture of the 1600 model provides 2.4 GHz access for residential and commercialapplications, while simultaneously providing 4.9 GHz access for Public Safety applications usingIEEE 802.11 client devices. The 1200 and 1400 provide 2.4GHz and 4.9 GHz respectivelyFeaturesDesigned to provide the maximum possible coverage area per access point, the SkyZhone usesMIMO technology (Multiple Input Multiple Output) to maximize the receive signal strength fromtypical low power IEEE 802.11b/g client devices. MIMO enables the SkyZhone to maintain areliable link at distances up to 50% greater than non-MIMO solutions. The SkyZhone Outdoor Wi-Fi Access Points enable Telephone Companies to deploy a morereliable, lower latency, higher speed, lower cost network than traditional mesh Wi-Fi solutions. The 1x00 SkyZhone access points are AC powered. They backhaul the user traffic on theEthernet port or wirelessly using the Wireless Distribution System (WDS) technology. The SkyZhone access points’ dual-radio architecture provides 2.4GHz access for residential andcommercial applications while simultaneously providing 4.9GHz access for public safetyapplications, using industry standard IEEE 802.11 client devices. Each radio has 4 SSIDs. These SSIDs are mapped to VLANs. This allows the SkyZhone accesspoint to take advantage of all the features defined in IEEE 802.3. This includes prioritization ofone VLAN over another, and rate limiting of each VLAN. This allows the SkyZhone AP to givepriority to Public Safety traffic over Internet Access traffic.Remote configuration and troubleshooting is supported via SSH and HTTPS to SkyZhone accesspoints through a separate management VLAN. In addition, a console port is provided for localaccess to the CLI.
