53. Securing the Shock ModuleTo secure the shock module tighten the 3 hex screws (Figure 3b). Startwith the top hex screw and work down by applying 3Nm with a torquewrench. Perform this sequence twice, since the upper hex screws willloosen in the first run.Warning: Overtightening the hex screws can strip threads and causeshock module to bind.4. Applying a Permanent Shock Module SettingTo permanently fix the shock module, remove the hex screws one byone; apply Loctite 243 and 3Nm with a torque wrench. When finished,re-apply torque of 3Nm on all hex screws. Failing to apply Loctite 243to the hex screws may result in the shock coming loose.DYNAMIC ALIGNMENTHeel WedgesHeel wedges influence the heel to toe function. Start altering the heelresistance to improve foot response by adding a heel wedge. The small, medium and large wedges can be interchanged to customize thestiffness and achieve the desired functional characteristics. The wedgescan be trimmed using sharp scissors to customize stiffness.Temporary Wedge Placement (Figure 5)• Place the wedge in the angle of heel and foot module.• Secure in position with tape wrapped around the foot modulePermanent Wedge Placement• Roughen the upper and lower surface of the heel with abrasive paper.• Apply adhesive on the lower side of the wedge only.• Locate in the foot/heel junction and position before adhesive sets.• For split toe feet install the heel wedge then remove a thin slice in themiddle by cutting with a sharp knife through the split in the carbonfoot module (Figure 6).Instant adhesive is necessary to bond the urethane heel wedge. Theadhesive cures in 15-20 seconds. For removal the adhesive may besoftened by soaking in acetone or cyanoacrylate adhesive remover.Heel DividerThe heel divider should be placed in the last third of the split heel part. Tosecure its position a drop of instant adhesive can be used on one side.PROTECTIVE FILM ON PYRAMIDThe protective film protects the pyramid from scratching. Remove thefilm when the fitting is complete.CATEGORY SELECTION CHARTPlease refer to the selection charts below to determine the appropriatestiffness required according to Össur recommendations.WEIGHT KG 45-52 53-59 60-68 69-77 78-88 89-100 101-116 117-130 131-147WEIGHT LBS 99-115 116-130 131-150 151-170 171-194 195-220 221-256 257-287 288-324Low Impact Level 1 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8Moderate Impact Level 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 N/AHigh Impact Level 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 N/A N/A
