Software Option Settings 3-5Media TypeTwo media speeds and the Auto Select Media Type functionare available, as shown in Table 3-1. Refer to the section“Auto Select Media Type” in Chapter 2 for information on thisfunction.Network Driver OptimizationThis option specifies whether to optimize the network driverfor a normal environment, minimized CPU utilization, ormaximized network performance environment. You maychoose to use a larger percentage of CPU resources underDOS in order to improve network throughput. In multitasking environments, choosing theMinimized CPU Utilization option saves the resources ofthe CPU for other tasks. If no other applications are makingmajor demands on CPU resources, you may choose theMaximized Network Performance option.Full DuplexFull duplex refers to data communication sent and received atthe same time. Full duplex operation is possible only in 10 Mbpsoperation when used in an environment where the switchinghub supports it. Do not enable the Full Duplex option on theadapter unless your switching hub is set for full duplex. Theadapter and the switching hub will not function unless they areset to the same setting.Table 3-1 Software Configuration OptionsOption Default Setting Available SettingsMedia Type Auto Select Auto Select10BASE-T (RJ-45) (10 Mbps)100BASE-TX (100 Mbps)Network Driver Optimization Normal NormalMinimized CPU UtilizationMaximized Network PerformanceFull Duplex Disabled Enabled (10 Mbps only)Disabled
