68 C HAPTER 6: ADVANCED C ONFIGURATIONUnderstanding Data CallParametersThe Data Call Parameters window, shown in Figure 47, contains the followingfields.Figure 47 Data Call Parameters WindowMinimum Call DurationThe minimum call duration is the minimum length of a call that is measured andmust be satisfied before a call is disconnected. The default for the minimum callduration is 2 minutes.Disconnecting an Automatic Data CallAn automatic data call is a call made automatically by the LAN Modem because ofactivity on the LAN to the WAN. An example would be a user launching his or herWeb browser. Because the parameters for the call, such as the telephone numberand user name, have been previously defined, a call (to an ISP, for example) maybe automatically and transparently launched with a click of your Web browser. You can define the amount of time the LAN Modem should wait beforedisconnecting this type of data call because of inactivity. The inactivity timer runssimultaneously with the minimum call duration. For example, if the minimum callduration is set to 2 minutes and the inactivity timer is set to 30 seconds, the callwill be connected for at least 2 minutes even if there has been no activity for30 seconds or more. To prevent a data call from being disconnected because ofinactivity, enter 0 (note that you must then manually disconnect the call via theManual Calling screen). The default is 30 seconds.Disconnecting a Manual Data CallA manual call is established using the Manual Calling option from the LANModem’s main page. You can define the amount of time the LAN Modem shouldwait before disconnecting this type of data call because of inactivity. This inactivitytimer is activated once the minimum call duration is satisfied and no furtheractivity is detected. For example, if the minimum call duration is set to 2 minutesand the inactivity timer is set to 15 minutes, the call will be connected for at least15 minutes. To prevent a manual call from being disconnected because ofinactivity, enter 0. The default is 15 minutes.
