DriveIT Low Voltage AC DrivesQuick Start GuideACS550-01 Drives (0.75…90 kW)OverviewThe installation of the ACS550 adjustablespeed AC drive follows the outline below.ApplicationThis guide provides a quick reference forinstalling ACS550-01 drives having a standardenclosure.Note! This guide does not provide detailedinstallation, safety or operationalinstructions. See the ACS550 User’sManual for complete information.Prepare for InstallationWarning! The ACS550 should ONLY beinstalled by a qualified electrician.Check• Motor compatibility – Motor type, nominalcurrent, frequency, and voltage range mustmatch drive specifications.• Suitable environment – Drive requiresheated, indoor controlled environment that issuitable for the selected enclosure.• Wiring – Follow local codes for wiring, circuitprotection, and EMC requirements.Refer to User’s manual and confirm that allpreparations are complete.Tools RequiredScrewdrivers, wire stripper, tape measure, mounting screws or bolts, and drill.Drive IdentificationUse the following chart to interpret the typecode found on the drive label.Collect Motor DataCollect the following data from the motornameplate plate for later use in the ACS550startup:• Voltage __________________________• Nominal motor current ______________• Nominal frequency _________________• Nominal speed ____________________• Nominal power ____________________Unpack the DriveNote! Lift ACS550 by its chassis and not by itscover.1. Unpack the drive.2. Check for any damage.3. Check the contents against the order / shippinglabel.Prepare the Mounting LocationThe drive requires asmooth, vertical, solidsurface, free from heat andmoisture, with free spacefor air flow – 200 mm (8 in)above and below, and25 mm (1 in) around thesides of the drive.1. Mark the mounting points.2. Drill the mounting holes.Remove the Front Cover1. Remove thecontrol panel,if attached.2. Loosen thecaptive screwat the top.3. Pull near thetop to removethe cover.Mount the Drive1. Position the ACS550 anduse screws or bolts tosecurely tighten all fourcorners.2. Attach a warning stickerin the appropriatelanguage on the insideplastic shell.Install the WiringWiring Power1. Open the appropriateknockouts in the glandbox.2. Install the cable clamps forthe power/motor cables.3. On the input power cable, strip the sheathing back far enough to routeindividual wires.4. On the motor cable, strip the sheathingback far enough toexpose the copperwire screen so thatthe screen can betwisted into a pig-tail. Keep the shortpig-tail short tominimize noise radiation.5. Route both cables through the clamps.6. Strip and connect the power/motor wires, andthe power ground wire to the drive terminals.See below, or “Power Connections” in User’sManual.7. Connect the pig-tailcreated from the motorcable screen.8. Install conduit/glandbox and tighten thecable clamps.Warning!
