Planning the electrical installation41Protection against short-circuit inside the drive or in the supply cableProtect the drive and input cable with fuses or a circuit breaker.FusesSize the fuses according to instructions given in chapter Technical data. The fuseswill protect the input cable in short-circuit situations, restrict drive damage andprevent damage to adjoining equipment in case of a short-circuit inside thedrive.Circuit breakers which have been tested by ABB with the ACS800 can beused. Fuses must be used with other circuit breakers. Contact your local ABBrepresentative for the approved breaker types and supply network characteristics.Circuit breakerThe protective characteristics of circuit breakers depend on the type, constructionand settings of the breakers. There are also limitations pertaining to the short-circuitcapacity of the supply network.WARNING! Due to the inherent operating principle and construction ofcircuit breakers, independent of the manufacturer, hot ionized gases mayescape from the breaker enclosure in case of a short-circuit. To ensuresafe use, special attention must be paid to the installation and placementof the breakers. Follow the manufacturerís instructions.Note: Circuit breakers must not be used without fuses in the USA.Circuit diagramDRIVE IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH INPUT FUSES~ ~ M3~Distributionboard Input cable~ ~ M3~Drive or drivemoduleI >CircuitbreakerFuses
