ISU 512512 kbps ISDN Inverse MultiplexerProduct Features Basic inverse multiplexersupports a single high-speed data application rate Low-cost inversemultiplexing Applications includevideo conferencing,LAN/WAN connectivity,high-speed file transfer, and T1 backup Supports up to four ISDNBasic Rate lines Operates at synchronousdata rates of up to 512 kbps Supports industry stan-dard BONDING Dialing options includefront panel, stored number,V.25 bis, DTR dialing, andan RS-366 dial interface Flash memory for easyupgrades Remote configuration overISDN line or externally Compatible with Lucent5ESS®, Northern TelecomDMS-100™, and NationalISDN-1 switches Industry-leading five-yearNorth American warrantyThe ADTRAN ® ISU 512 ™ is a standalone ISDNService Unit that connects data terminalequipment (DTE) to the ISDN network. The ISU 512 is “specifically designed as alow-cost solution for applications such asvideo-conferencing, T-1 backup, LAN/WANconnectivity, and high-speed file transfer. The ISU 512 is designed as a costeffective inverse multiplexer for 384 kbpsvideoconferencing. Some videoconferencingproducts operate in a dual port mode. TheISU 512 is designed to operate in a dual portmode making it backward compatible withvideoconferencing systems utilizing twoSwitched 56 DSUs or a dual port ISDNterminal adapter. The ISU 512 connects directly to the ISDNnetwork using up to four Basic Rate ISDN(BRI) lines. By terminating four BRI circuits, the ISU 512 can create an aggregate band-width of up to 512 kbps which can be usedto backup a T-1 circuit.Since ISDN is a switched digital service, bandwidth can be established and utilizedon an as needed basis. Therefore, the ISU 512is well suited for applications where a highbandwidth connection is needed to supportbursty or infrequent traffic like medical imageor large file transfer. The ISU 512 may utilize either the V.35 orRS-530 DTE interface and supports synchro-nous data rates from 56 kbps to 512 kbps.At rates over 64 kbps, the BONDINGMode 1 inverse multiplexing protocolsynchronizes data using from one toeight 64 kbps B channels. By supportingBONDING the ISU 512 interoperates withother BONDING-compatible inverse multi-plexers and ISDN terminal adapters. The ISU 512 can be configured andmaintained, locally or remotely, using aVT100 terminal interface. For remote configu-ration, the unit can be accessed over the ISDNline or externally through the CHAIN IN porton the back panel of the unit. The front panel of the ISU 512 consistsof a two-line by 16 character LCD display, seven LEDs, and a 16-button keypad. Thisallows for configuring, dialing, testing, andmonitoring of the unit without data terminalor test equipment.Dialing from the unit is accomplishedby using the front panel, stored numbers,DTR assertion, or V.25 bis in-band dialing. The RS-366 parallel dial interface is availablefor applications such as videoconferencing. The ISU 512 also supports dedicated 2B1Qservices. This provides a dedicated point-to-point service (as in a limited distancemodern or leased line application) withno dialing necessary.
