ISU 512e512 kbps ISDN Inverse Multiplexer with SNMPProduct Features Low cost inversemultiplexing Applications includevideo-conferencing,LAN/WAN connectivity,high-speed file transfer, and T1 backup Supports up to four ISDNBasic Rate lines Operates at synchronousdata rates of up to 512 kbps Supports industry stan-dard BONDING andMultilink PPP Dialing options includefront panel, stored number,V.25 bis, DTR dialing, andan RS-366 dial interface Flash memory foreasy upgrades Remote configurationover ISDN line Embedded SNMPand Telnet 10BaseT EthernetSNMP access Standard five-yearwarrantyThe ADTRAN® ISU™ 512e is a standaloneISDN Service Unit that connects dataterminal equipment (DTE) to the ISDN net-work. The ISU 512e is specifically designed asa low-cost solution for applications such asvideo-conferencing, T1 backup, LAN/WANconnectivity, and high-speed file transfer.Embedded SNMP & Telnet are availablethrough a 10BaseT Ethernet port. Throughthe Management Information Base (MIB)-IIstandard and an ADTRAN-supplied enterpriseMIB, the ISU 512e can be configured, moni-tored and diagnosed using standard SNMPnetwork management programs such as HPOpenview®, Netview® and SunNet ® Manager. The ISU 512e connects directly to theISDN network using up to four Basic RateISDN (BRI) lines. By terminating four BRIcircuits, the ISU 512e can create an aggregatebandwidth of up to 512 kbps which can beused to backup a T1 circuit.Since ISDN is a switched digital service, bandwidth can be established and utilized onan as needed basis. Therefore, the ISU 512e iswell suited for applications where a highbandwidth connection is needed to supportbursty or infrequent traffic like medical imageor large file transfer. The ISU 512e supports synchronous datarates from 56 kbps to 512 kbps. At rates over64 kbps, the ISU 512e supports BONDINGMode 1 and MLPPP utilizing from one toeight 64 kbps B channels. By supportingBONDING the ISU 512e interoperates withother BONDING-compatible inverse multi-plexers and ISDN terminal adapters. Bysupporting MLPPP the ISU 512e interoperateswith MLPPP compatible routers and bridges. The ISU 512e can be configured and main-tained, locally or remotely, using a VT100terminal interface. For remote configuration, the unit can be accessed over the ISDN line. The front panel of the ISU 512e consistsof a two-line by 16 character LCD display, seven LEDs, and a 16-button keypad. Thisallows for configuring, dialing, testing, andmonitoring of the unit without data terminalor test equipment.Dialing from the unit is accomplished byusing the front panel, stored numbers, DTRassertion, or V.25 bis in-band dialing. TheRS-366 parallel dial interface is availablefor applications such as video-conferencing.The ISU 512e also supports dedicated 2B1Qservices. This provides a dedicated point-to-point service (as in a limited distance modernor leased line application) with no dialingnecessary.
