RADIO251MP3 CD PLAYERINTRODUCTIONThis chapter only describes the variants regarding theoperation of the CD MP3 player: as far as the operationof the radio is concerned, refer to the description inchapters “Radio” and “MP3 CD Player”.NOTE MPEG Layer-3 audio decoding technologylicensed from Fraunhofer IIS and Thomson multimedia.MP3 MODEIn addition to playing regular audio CDs, the radio is alsoable to play CD-ROMs on which audio files have beenrecorded using the MP3 compression format. The radiofunctions as described in the “CD Player” chapter whenan ordinary audio CD is inserted.The use of good quality media burned at the slowestpossible speeds is recommended for optimum quality.The files on an MP3 CD are structured in folders thatcreate lists of all the folders containing MP3 tracks(folders or subfolders are all displayed on the samelevel); the folders that do not contain MP3 tracks cannotbe selected.The specifications and operating conditions for playingMP3 files are the following:❒ the CD-ROMs used should be mastered inaccordance with the ISO 9660 standard;❒ the music files should have the extension “.mp3”: fileswith a different extension will not be reproduced;❒ The sampling frequencies that can be reproduced are:44.1 kHz, stereo (from 96 to 320 kbit/s) – 22.05 kHz,mono or stereo (from 32 to 80 kbit/s);❒ tracks with a variable bit-rate can be reproduced.IMPORTANT The track names must not include thefollowing characters: spaces, ‘ (apostrophes), ( and )(open and close brackets). During the mastering of aMP3 CD, make sure that the names of the files do notcontain these characters; if not, the radio will not be ableto play the tracks involved.SELECTING MP3 SESSIONS ON HYBRIDDISCSIf a hybrid disc is inserted (Mixed Mode, Enhanced, CD-Extra) also containing MP3 files, the radio automaticallystarts playing the audio session. It is possible to move tothe MP3 session whilst playing by keeping the MEDIAbutton pressed for more than 2 seconds.
