3-12Adaptec Storage Management Software User’s GuideArray GroupsThe tool bar at the top of the Logical Configuration View window, shown in Figure 3-4, contains the following buttons:You can use the Logical Configuration View window to create anycombination of RAID level 0, 1, or 5 disk arrays. RAID 0 arrays canbe any combination of individual drives. RAID 1 arrays arecomprised of multiple pairs of drives. RAID 5 arrays contain threeor more drives. One or more arrays of the same RAID level can be combined into amultilevel RAID, such as:■ RAID 10 for multiple RAID 1 arrays■ RAID 50 for multiple RAID 5 arraysThe drives in a multilevel RAID appear as a single LSU to the hostcomputer.Although arrays must be built from drives that are all attached tothe same controller, arrays can contain drives from multiplechannels. Arrays are built using the drives in the order selected, regardless of which channel they are connected to.Arrays created using drives on multiple channels can offerperformance benefits over single-channel arrays. Multiple channelscan also be used to create fault-tolerant arrays using pairs of driveson alternate channels.Switch View Switches to the Logical Information View. Formore information, see page 3-20.Create Array Group Starts the process of collecting availableindividual drives to assemble into a RAID array. For more information, see page 3-14.Expand ArrayGroupWindows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows NTonly—Allows adding drives to an existing arrayand dynamically resizing the logical drive. Formore information, see page 3-19.Delete Array Group Allows deletion of the selected RAID array. Formore information, see page 3-21.Print Prints the configuration file of the selectedRAID array.
