ARK-3383 User Manual 22Chapter 3 Hardware Installation andUpgrade3.1 Jumpers and ConnectorsThe ARK-3383 Embedded Box Computer consists of a PC-based com-puter that is housed in an aluminum top cover, a metal bottom case withaccessible bottom cover and front/ rear metal faceplates. The HDD, andSDRAM DIMM, are all readily accessible by removing the easily acces-sible bottom cover. Any maintenance or hardware upgrades can be easilycompleted after removing the top cover, front and rear metal faceplates. Ifyou are a systems integrator and need to know how to completely disas-semble the embedded box computer, you can find more useful informa-tion in Chapter 8.3.2 Setting jumpersYou can configure your ARK-3383 to match the needs of your applica-tion by setting jumpers. A jumper is the simplest kind of electrical switch.It consists of two metal pins and a small metal clip (often protected by aplastic cover) that slides over the pins to connect them. To “close” ajumper, you connect the pins with the clip. To “open” a jumper youremove the clip. Sometimes a jumper will have three pins, labeled 1, 2,and 3. In this case, you would connect either pins 1 and 2 or pins 2 and 3.Warning! Do not remove any mechanical parts, such as thetop cover, bottom cover and front/rear faceplatesuntil you have verified that no power is flowingwithin the Embedded Box Computer. Power mustbe switched off and the power cord must beunplugged. Every time you service the EmbeddedBox Computer, you should be aware of this.
