Installing via a Modem AXIS 2420 User’s Manual14Installing via a ModemThe information in this section describes how to connect the AXIS 2420 to a serial modemfor transmitting images over a dial-up connection.Important!Connecting Your Computer Using the Null Modem Cableï Although instructions for configuring the AXIS 2420 using a null modem cable are provided below, it isrecommended that (if possible) the unit is initially installed and configured over a network.ï The information and screen examples featured within this section are specific to Windows NT. Althoughsimilar to the Dial-Up implementations in other versions of Windows, small deviations in the dialoginstructions for other operating systems should be expected. Refer to your system information for furtherinformation on creating a Dial-Up modem connection if you are using any other operating system.ï Windows Dial-Up Networking and TCP/IP must be correctly installed prior to commencing with themodem cable connection. Detailed information on how to check this is provided in Windows Help.❶ Connect the supplied Null modem cablebetween the COM1 Serial Connector on theAXIS 2420 and the COM port of your computer.❷ Connect the power supply to the AXIS 2420and check that the Power Indicator is lit.❸ From the Start menu,open the Control Paneland double-click theModems icon.❼ Select the serial port towhich your AXIS 2420 isnow connected via the NullModem cable. Click Next>.❻ Select the Standard 28800modem from the displayedlist of modems. Click Next>.❾ Click the Properties button to finally check that the dis-played Communications Port is set correctly; that is, set tothe same port you connected the AXIS 2420 to. Click OK.❿ Click Close.❺ Check the box: Don’t detect my modem,I will select it from a list. Click Next>.❽ A Standard 28800 modem connection isnow available for the AXIS 2420. Click Finishto close the Install New Modem wizard.❹ If a Standard Modem is already set upand displayed in the Modem Propertiesdialog you can proceed directly to step 8.
