Winding/Installing the Bobbin14Installing the bobbinInstall the bobbin wound with thread.You can begin sewing immediately without pulling up thebobbin thread by simply inserting the bobbin in the bobbincase and guiding the thread through the slit in the needleplate cover.aTurn on the machine.bPress (Needle position button) once or twice toraise the needle.cTurn off the machine.dRaise the presser foot lever.eSlide the bobbin cover latch to the right and removethe bobbin cover.fPlace the bobbin in the bobbin case so that the threadunwinds to the left.g Lightly hold down the bobbin with your right hand(1), and then guide the end of the thread around thetab of the needle plate cover with your left hand (2).hWhile lightly holding down the bobbin with your righthand (1), guide the thread through the slit in theneedle plate cover (2) and lightly pull it with your lefthand (3).Memo• If the threads will be pulled to create gathers or thethread at the beginning of sewing will be finished, forexample, when free motion quilting, first pull up thebobbin thread.For details, refer to “Pulling up the bobbin thread” onpage 18.CAUTION• Use a bobbin that has been correctly woundwith thread, otherwise the needle may breakor the thread tension will be incorrect.• Before inserting or changing the bobbin, besure to turn off the machine, otherwise injuriesmay occur if the “Start/Stop” button or anyother button is pressed and the machine startsoperating.1 TabCAUTION• Be sure to hold down the bobbin with yourfinger and unwind the bobbin threadcorrectly, otherwise the thread may break orthe thread tension will be incorrect.Memo• By guiding the thread around the tab of the needle platecover, passing the thread as shown by 2 in thisillustration, then lightly pulling the thread at 3, thethread will enter the tension spring of the bobbin case toapply the appropriate tension to the bobbin threadduring sewing.
