Some modelsare also preset with the default settings for upper threadtension for each stitch.However, you can change their settings or adjust them byfollowing the procedure described in this section.Setting the stitch widthThe stitch width (zigzag width) can be adjusted to make thestitch wider or narrower.Each press of “-” makes the zigzag stitch narrower.Each press of “+” makes the zigzag stitch wider.Setting the stitch lengthThe stitch length can be adjusted to make the stitch coarser(longer) or finer (shorter).Each press of “-” makes the stitch finer (shorter).Each press of “+” makes the stitch coarser (longer).Setting the StitchNote• Stitch settings return to their defaults if they arechanged, when the machine is turned off or adifferent stitch is selected before the stitchsetting is saved, refer to “Saving stitch settings”on page B-39.Memo• Press to return the setting to its default.• If the straight stitch (left needle position or triplestretch stitch) was selected, changing the stitchwidth changes the needle position. Increasing thewidth moves the needle to the right; reducing thewidth moves the needle to the left.• means the setting cannot be adjusted.CAUTION• After adjusting the stitch width, slowly turnthe handwheel toward you (counterclockwise)and check that the needle does not touch thepresser foot.
