TroubleshootingProblem: I’ve hooked up the B1290 as per the installation instruc-tions but nothing happens.- Use a voltmeter to check that the power supply is properly connected. Ifan AC adapter is being used, it should have an output of at least 12 volts DCwith a center-negative power connector. If the DC power source is con-nected to the RADIO terminal block, it should have the positive lead con-nected to terminal 8 and the negative lead to terminal 7 .- Do not attach power to both inputs at the same time.Problem: The B1290 will not program from a local programmingphone.- If you do not hear the voice prompt to begin programming, check that theprogramming phone is plugged into the PGM jack and not the PHONEjack.- If you hear the voice prompt to begin programming, but the B1290 doesnot register your entries, check that you are using a tone phone. Sometimesa pushbutton phone actually sends dial pulses rather than DTMF. You cantell the difference by listening in the earpiece; pulse dialing sounds likeclicking, DTMF like tones.- Check for the TONE LED on the front panel when a digit is being re-ceived. Some phones send short bursts of tone rather than continuous tonewhile the key is depressed. If the B1290 is not detecting DTMF, try anotherphone.- Check the setting of the receive level for the phone port. Since it is not pos-sible to do this using the programming phone, it will have to done with theprogramming software.- Disconnect the RX input from the radio. Audio received from this input issummed with the audio from the programming phone. If noise is being re-ceived, it will affect the decoding of tones and the programming of thevoices. The RX input should always be connected to squelched audio.Problem: The B1290 does not dial out over the telephone line whenan alarm occurs.- Check that the phone line is plugged into the correct jack. The jack labeledPGM is for a local programming phone; the telephone line should beplugged into the PHONE jack.- Check that the telephone is dialing from the correct directory (ProgramCode 2). The B1290 has four separate directories: A, B, C and D. Check thatthe telephone numbers are entered correctly in the selected directory, andthat the directory is not empty.66 Troubleshooting
